I want to play WAR!

January 7, 2009 Category: Uncategorized0 Comments

I’ve spent hours over the last five days trying to come up with a way to play WAR independently and I’ve made no progress. I have access to WAR, WoW and SWG only through my roommates computers and its depressing yet deserved. Its deserved because I’ve not upgraded anything outside of my Hard Drive and added a DvD-ROM to my system since 2003. I always told myself that my computer was the shit, which it may have been back in 2003, but that it is shit.

It goes a little like this.

Inset Adobe Creative Suite 4 MC into CD-ROM and wait for auto-play. It pops, I feel a little tingle go up my spine and I get excited.

Next.

Please select the options you want to install. OK, I want them all mother fucker I just dropped some cash on this shit.

Select All > Next.

We’re sorry, your PC does not meet the minimum system requirements for the following applications.

Instead of saying ALL, it lists each one individually in bright red text.

FUCK!

I want to play WAR and WoW and SWG.

I want to see what CS4 is made of.

I’ve been DYING to play with Cinema4D and After Effects but can’t.

Anyone like to make a donation to the Rhinn needs a new PC fund?

Still counting down…

Perhaps one day I’ll get the chance to play WAR again. I’m still without a PC capable of running it and with wrath out I’m afraid I won’t get back into WAR. I logged in for about thirty minutes on the 12th just to run around and check out the new classes, which I didn’t get a chance to do. I realized I really need to give the game more credit. Only sixteen levels into the game and absent about a month and a half, and within thirty minutes of playing it felt good to be back. I remember back to WoW during the Rank14 grind and how horrible it was and how much time I spent doing battleground after battleground just to read patch notes stating that everyone will have the opportunity to purchase the high rank gear. I was pissed, I was really pissed and I stopped playing. I think it was about the same time span, four to six weeks and I logged back in… just running around the hall with the battlemasters, watching my character jump(I had been playing Guild Wars during the break), and looking at everything around me made me feel like I was back home. WAR didn’t give me that back home feeling, but it sure was close.

I’m rather confident that come early to mid Janurary I will be back in WAR and hopefully fourty by the time Feburary hits.

Encouragement!

In an attempt to bait me into spending more time playing, Majere has offered to give me a rare bow he picked up.

Bandit’s Shoota

Despite my desire to rank up I don’t think it will be happening anytime soon. I had picked a new PC case last week and after moving my hardware in and wiring up… the mother fucker just wouldn’t boot. After swapping every component with a spare minus the processor I threw in the tow, she’s dead.

My WAR time is now limited to slots when Wesker or Majere are not at their systems. In the mean time I’m working on my next super machine, we’ll see what I came come up with.

Catch Up

First World RvR Kill

First World RvR Kill!

So, I have some catching up to do. I haven’t really played for a week and when I have I’ve invested the majority of my time into my Disciple of Khaine on Badlands. I was never much for kiting as a hunter in WoW and the send and wait tactics with pets were too slow. It hasn’t been too bad with the Herder yet, but I guess time will tell. I’m currently Rank15 and have been for the majority of the week. Between constant client crashes and distractions I don’t know when I’ll find the time to Rank up.

On a more interesting note I did score my first real world RvR kill. I had been running Northrend on my Marauder and with the creation of my Herder and the close combat that Ekrund offers, I wasn’t much for that scenario so I decided I would make my way over to Nordland and scenerio there. In my quest to reach the battlemaster and while in complete noobness I ran into the Order territory rather than Destro. I saw some dude, which I thought was an NPC at the time, running around some other NPCs. Once I saw the character run towards the street and start heading to another area I realized it wasn’t a named NPC and I thought I’d see what I was made of. Long story short, it was easy, almost too easy. Snare, dot, hammer, hammer, repeat, I win.

My second World RvR kill took place further along the Greenskins story line near a PQ, can’t remember the name. At the time I was flagged and an Ironbreaker flagged after he ran all up in my business. Initially my response was “FUCK!” as he quickly took me to 50% health. After a root and dot rotation it was easy to keep him perma-snared/rooted and I scored a second victory. As a side note,  Point-Blank is the shit…

I think the biggest decision with WAR right now is to keep playing the Herder, pursue the Disciple or play with another class. Seeing as how my free time is more scarce I may just stick with the Herder.

Another Monster Born

September 27, 2008 Category: General0 Comments

I remember the day I made my rogue in WoW. I was sitting in my appartment with Wesker, Lurama and Naproxen(As they were to all be known). They had gone out a day or two previously to pickup their copy and I was trying hold out was I was playing SWG at the time, which ironically I have an active SWG account right now. I still remember the night I made my first MMO character. It was September of 03, freshman year of college at WSU and Lunchbox had given myself and Wesker a copy. Unlike the last couple games I had really been anticipating the release of SWG.

So, this time round I figured I’d take screenshots and blog my WAR career, if you can even call it that.

I spent some time looking at the careers on HammerWiki and picking through them all on screen. I finally decided Marauder may be the right choice and went at playing with all the appearance options. I typically enjoy the melee DPS roles and the Marauders looked rather interesting both appearance and game play wise. I was originally going to roll a Witch Elf as that was the career I had played in Beta, but in all honestly I’m kind of tired of running around on female characters all the time.

Once I started running around and playing with the UI options the game started to feel a little more comfortable. Regardless of the game, having a two skill lineup is always going to be rather dull especially when only one of them can be used in melee and the other is ranged. After a night of play I was able to hit Rank5 and that’s when it happened.

I randomly decided to sign on to my WoW Vent and talk with some of the guys there. They had decided to roll Order and created some toons over on Sylvania. As always, I said I’d make a character over there to run around with here and there and that’s what I did. I ended up making a Shadow Warrior and had jumped into Nordenwatch while I was waiting for a guild invite. When the battle was over I looked at the stat screen in disbelief. At Rank2 I was the top damage dealer for that round. Granted there were no 10+ characters that round, but I had dealt roughly 15-16k dmg… AS RANK2!

I promptly logged out, queued for Badlands and made my Squig Herder. I’ve enjoyed it since and think it’s going to be the character I stick out to 40 and through end game. I’ve still been playing with the idea of Ranking up the Marauder but I think that will happen in time.

To WAR? Or Not to WAR?

September 27, 2008 Category: General0 Comments

Well, I’ve already made that decision. After months of resistance I finally broke down and went ahead and picked up Warhammer Online. I was skeptical at first but after an hour or two of game play I decided it was a nice change of pace. Initially I was hesitant to take to the game, I was comparing everything to WoW. The physics in WoW do this, and you can do that etc. Two or three hours in and I think I was sold.

My first impression wasn’t wow. I don’t think any MMO company out there could wow any player at this point in the time. There is only so much you can do to appeal to the masses when it comes to questing. However, unlike WoW, when you need to complete a collection quest there is no drop rate. You need to obtain 15 of whatever then you kill the 15 mobs that drop the item you need and thats that. In addition to the usual questing you have the option to level to cap via PvP only with gear options along the way. I can’t talk any shit about that really, I was really dissappointed when I started working on my warrior. I had hit 60 on my shaman via BG token turn ins. I remember being exalted with AV at level 52 and reveered with the other two factions by 56. I think Blizz made an error in removing that, not everyone enjoys farming mobs to 60/70/80. Whie PvE and PvP both become repititious, atleast PvP will throw some twists your way and it wont be so mindless.
